By LoganApr 17,2025

Pokémon Trading Card Game Pocket has received an exciting update with the launch of the Pokémon Diamond and Pearl-themed Space Time Smackdown expansion. This set, themed around Dialga and Palkia, is now available in two distinct booster packs and features a total of 207 cards. While smaller than the previous Genetic Apex set with its 286 cards, Space Time Smackdown boasts a higher percentage of rare cards with 52 alternate art, Star, and Crown rarity cards, compared to Genetic Apex's 60.

Space Time Smackdown's official card count is 155, excluding the alternate art cards. The set includes 10 ex Pokémon cards featuring Yanmega, Infernape, Palkia, Pacharisu, Mismagius, Gallade, Weavile, Darkrai, Dialga, and Lickilicky, covering all Pokémon types except Dragon, with the Darkness type receiving two ex cards.

A significant addition to the set is the introduction of Pokémon Tool cards, which provide strategic advantages in battle. The three new Tool cards are Giant Cape, adding 20 Hit Points to the Pokémon; Rocky Helmet, dealing 20 damage to the opponent's Pokémon when the active trainer takes damage; and Lum Berry, which removes conditions like Poison from the Pokémon.

Battles

The release of Space Time Smackdown brings new Solo Battles to Pokémon TCG Pocket across various difficulty tiers. Eight battles are available in the Intermediate tier, nine in the Advanced tier, and eight in the Expert tier, focusing on new Pokémon like Dialga ex, Palkia ex, and others such as Togekiss, Bastiodon, Glaceon, Magmortar, Magnezone, Rampardos, and Torterra. In multiplayer, cards like Infernape ex, with its ability to deal 140 damage for two Fire Energy, and Palkia ex, which mirrors Mewtwo ex's power, could shake up the meta. Weavile ex's one Energy attack and the boost to Steel type decks with Dialga ex and other cards are also noteworthy.

Missions and Rewards

Alongside Space Time Smackdown, Pokémon TCG Pocket introduces numerous new missions. Collecting signature cards will unlock rental decks, while completing the set will earn players Dialga and Palkia icons. Museum missions involve collecting 1 Star and full art 2 Star cards, with a secret mission, Champion of the Sinnoh Region, rewarding players for collecting the full art Cynthia card and 1 Star cards of her key Pokémon. Rewards include Pack Hourglasses, Wonder Hourglasses, and Emblem Tickets, though no Trading Tokens are awarded through missions. To celebrate the trading feature, Creatures Inc. gifted players 500 Trading Tokens. New items like Dialga and Palkia album covers and the Lovely Hearts backdrop are available in the shop, with a new Poké Gold bundle focused on Cynthia replacing the previous Gardevoir bundle.

Trading

Despite the excitement around Space Time Smackdown, the recent trading update has stirred controversy. Creatures Inc. has remained silent on fan feedback, with the focus primarily on the new set. The "Trade Feature Celebration Gift" included 500 Trade Tokens and 120 Trade Hourglasses, but the trading system has been criticized for requiring Trade Tokens to trade cards of 3 Diamonds or higher. The system demands selling cards to gain tokens, with higher rarity cards yielding more tokens but requiring more to trade. Fans have expressed frustration over the cumbersome nature of trading, calling it "hilariously toxic" and a "monumental failure" that hinders community engagement.
