Pokémon TCG Pocket Players Blown Away After Discovering Some Cards Reference Iconic Game Boy Locations

By AvaFeb 20,2025

Pokémon TCG Pocket's captivating card art has captivated players for months, but recently, hidden details linking the artwork to classic Game Boy games have come to light.

The discovery began when Reddit user asch_win highlighted subtle clues in the Spearow card. The card depicts Spearow amidst familiar scenery: grass, a fence, trees, and two distinctive buildings. Asch_win identified the purple and yellow building as Celadon City's Department Store from Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen. The fenced-in grassy area to the left strongly resembles Route 16, a known Spearow habitat in the Kanto region.

This intentional referencing of iconic locations from the original games is not an isolated instance. Reddit user jteede uncovered further connections, including a Diglett card situated near Vermillion City and a Haunter card positioned by Lavender Town's infamous tower. Asch_win also revealed location references within several Supporter cards.

Many card illustrations feature fantastical settings seemingly unrelated to established Pokémon lore. Some, like a Pikachu variant, mirror real-world collectible cards. However, others are unique to Pokémon TCG Pocket, serving as cleverly concealed Easter eggs.

The Pokémon TCG Pocket community has enthusiastically investigated other cards, uncovering more references. These include the S.S. Anne on a Gyarados full-art card and a trio of Oddish, Venonat, and Bellsprout cards forming a narrative based on the seaside Snorlax encounter in FireRed and LeafGreen.

Since its October mobile release, Pokémon TCG Pocket has received one additional booster expansion, Mythical Island, bringing the total to four. Further expansions are anticipated, with additional cards periodically introduced through Wonder Pick Events and updates. As Creatures Inc. and DeNA continue to expand the card roster, players are encouraged to remain vigilant for further hidden references.

Meanwhile, you can explore the current Wonder Pick event featuring Charmander and Squirtle, and delve into the ongoing discussion regarding the impact of pack selection.
