Rumors are swirling that Red Dead Redemption 2 might be galloping its way onto the Nintendo Switch 2 by the end of 2025. According to GameReactor, sources close to Rockstar Games suggest that not only is a Switch 2 port in the works, but a next-gen upgrade for the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S is also on the horizon. These sources hint that both the port and the upgrade patch might be available as early as later this year, promising enhanced gameplay for current-gen systems.
Echoing these reports, Nintenduo also mentions that the Switch 2 version of Red Dead Redemption 2 could see the light of day within Take-Two's current financial year, ending March 31, 2026. However, it remains uncertain whether this release will be exclusively digital or if physical editions will also be available.
When Red Dead Redemption 2 first debuted in 2018, IGN hailed it as a "masterpiece," awarding it a perfect 10/10 score. In IGN's Red Dead Redemption 2 review, it was described as "a game of rare quality; a meticulously polished open-world ode to the outlaw era."
The possibility of Red Dead Redemption 2 coming to the Switch 2 aligns with the optimistic outlook shared by Take-Two's CEO, Strauss Zelnick, during a recent Q&A with investors. Zelnick expressed "great optimism" for the Nintendo Switch 2 and highlighted improved support for third-party publishers. He revealed plans to launch four titles on the Switch 2, including Civilization 7 on launch day (June 5), the NBA 2K and WWE 2K series, and Borderlands 4 on September 12. While these titles are not surprising given Take-Two's existing portfolio on the original Switch, Zelnick's comments suggest potential for further releases, possibly including titles from their back catalog like GTA V or Red Dead Redemption 2. However, a Switch 2 port of GTA 6 seems unlikely at this stage.
