As a practical spender, I typically stick to the essentials and the occasional discounted video game. However, my interest in LEGO sets, a nostalgic hobby from my childhood, was reignited last year. Despite LEGO's reputation for being pricey, especially sets linked to popular franchises like movies or video games, I finally decided to indulge in the LEGO Super Mario Piranha Plant. It had been on sale for under $50 since October of last year, and I realized my desk could use a new, albeit unconventional, potted plant.

My interest in this particular set was sparked by IGN's build review of the Piranha Plant. As a dedicated fan of the Mario franchise, this set seemed like the ideal way to showcase my passion. While LEGO offers various floral sets in its botanical collection, none capture the whimsical yet slightly terrifying charm of the Piranha Plant.

Building the set was a rewarding experience, and now, seeing it on my desk transports me to the Mushroom Kingdom, where I imagine tending to my little potted Piranha Plant during work hours. The construction took an afternoon and was engaging enough to keep my interest throughout. This is currently my only LEGO Nintendo set, but the joy it brings has me considering expanding my collection.

How Much Are You Willing to Spend on a LEGO Set You Love?
The LEGO market can be expensive, with new adult-targeted sets often exceeding $200. It's a delicate balance between indulging in a passion and avoiding financial strain. The Mario LEGO set, priced under $50, felt like a justifiable treat. The hours spent building it and the daily joy it adds to my workspace make it seem worth even more. However, $50 is my personal limit for such indulgences.
