Sony's popular PlayStation console themes for PS5 are disappearing! The limited-time PS1, PS2, PS3, and PS4 themes will be unavailable as of January 31, 2025. However, Sony has confirmed their return in the coming months, much to the delight of nostalgic PS5 owners who've enjoyed the classic boot-up sounds and visuals.
In a recent announcement, Sony expressed gratitude for the overwhelmingly positive reception to the themes. They stated that they are currently working to bring these special designs back.

Despite this good news, Sony also revealed that there are currently no plans to release additional themes beyond these four retro designs. This announcement has been met with some fan disappointment, as PS5 theme customization has been a requested feature. The statement reads:
“While there aren’t plans to create additional themes in the future, we're excited to keep celebrating legacy PlayStation hardware with you all.”
The temporary themes, released to commemorate PlayStation's 30th anniversary on December 3, 2024, offered a nostalgic trip down memory lane. Each theme recreated the distinct visual style and audio cues of its respective console generation. The PS1 theme featured the classic console on the home screen, the PS2 its menu design, the PS3 its wave background, and the PS4 its signature wave patterns. All themes included the iconic sound effects of their corresponding consoles.
