This guide delves into the enigmatic Dwarf of Stardew Valley, offering insights into befriending this unique character. Unlike other villagers, communication with the Dwarf requires deciphering a new language, adding a layer of intrigue to the interaction.
Updated January 8, 2024: Recent Stardew Valley updates (1.5 and 1.6) have impacted NPC interactions, including gift preferences and the Movie Theater's role in friendships. This guide reflects these changes.
Meeting the Dwarf
Located in the mines, just right of the first floor entrance, a large boulder hides the Dwarf's shop. Destroy it using a copper pickaxe or a bomb to reveal the Dwarf.
Unlocking Dwarvish
The Dwarf doesn't speak common tongue. To communicate, collect all four Dwarf Scrolls (artifacts) and donate them to the museum. Gunther will reward you with a Dwarvish translation guide. Return to the mines to finally converse with the Dwarf and access his shop.
Gift Giving
Gifts are key to friendship. The Dwarf accepts two gifts weekly. His birthday (Summer 22nd) multiplies friendship points gained from gifts by eight.
Top-Tier Gifts (+80 Friendship):
- Gemstones: Amethyst, Aquamarine, Jade, Ruby, Topaz, Emerald
- Lemon Stone
- Omni Geode
- Lava Eel
- All universally loved gifts
Good Gifts (+45 Friendship):
- All universally liked gifts
- All artifacts
- Cave Carrot
- Quartz
Gifts to Avoid (Negative Friendship):
Avoid mushrooms, foraged items, and universally hated gifts (except artifacts).
Movie Theater Dates
Once unlocked, invite the Dwarf to the Movie Theater. He loves all movie selections but has specific snack preferences. He loves Stardrop Sorbet and Rock Candy, and likes Cotton Candy, Ice Cream Sandwich, Jawbreaker, Salmon Burger, Sour Slimes, and Star Cookie. Other snacks are disliked.
