If you've recently watched A Minecraft Movie in theaters, you undoubtedly remember Jack Black's brief yet catchy musical tribute to the lava chicken scene midway through the film.
Black, portraying Steve, delivers the 34-second track Lava Chicken during a scene where Jason Momoa's character and others witness poultry meet molten fate. Despite its brevity, the song has exploded across social media platforms.
The tune has now made history by debuting at No. 21 on the UK's official charts, becoming the shortest song ever to chart nationally. "Streaming culture and viral trends are redefining what constitutes a hit," noted ERA, the UK's digital entertainment trade body.
This isn't Black's first venture into viral gaming music. His 95-second ballad Peaches from The Super Mario Bros. Movie, where he voiced Bowser serenading Princess Peach, previously cracked the Billboard Hot 100 - marking his first solo chart entry. His band Tenacious D had previously charted with 2006's The Pick of Destiny at No. 78.
The charts have seen other brief musical successes, including 2007's Spider Pig (64 seconds) from The Simpsons Movie and Liam Lynch's 2002 punk anthem United States of Whatever (86 seconds).
The lava chicken phenomenon isn't the only viral element from the Minecraft adaptation. Social media has been flooded with videos showing enthusiastic fans - some even bringing live chickens to screenings - celebrating the film's unique moments.
The Minecraft film continues breaking records, having surpassed $700 million globally and tracking to become the highest-grossing video game adaptation in history. Production insights reveal the creative team maintained a private Minecraft server during development.
