What is a Stronghold in Minecraft?

Ender PortalImage: youtube.com

A stronghold is an ancient, sprawling underground complex. Beyond the valuable loot scattered throughout its twisting corridors, prison cells, libraries, and other intriguing areas, lies the portal to The End – the game's final boss battle. Activating this portal requires the Eye of Ender, which we'll discuss in detail below. Important note: you can't stumble upon a stronghold by chance; the game provides specific methods for locating them.

Eye of Ender

This is the intended, legitimate way to locate a stronghold. To craft an Eye of Ender, you'll need:

  • Blaze Powder (from Blaze rods dropped by Blazes)
  • Ender Pearl (dropped by Endermen, or purchased from villager priests)

Throw the Eye of Ender; it will float briefly in the direction of the nearest stronghold. Remember, Eyes of Ender are consumable. For survival mode, you'll likely need around 30.

The Locate Command

For a less conventional (and arguably unfair) approach, enable cheats in your game settings and use this command:

/locate structure stronghold

(This command works in Minecraft version 1.20 and later.)

The coordinates provided are approximate. Use the teleportation command (/tp ) to get close, but further exploration might be needed.
