Switch 2 Pre-Order Dates and Priority Set for U.S., Canada

By ZacharyMay 20,2025

The much-anticipated pre-orders for the Nintendo Switch 2 were scheduled to launch globally on April 9. However, due to economic turbulence sparked by Trump's tariffs, Nintendo had to delay pre-orders in the U.S., followed by Canada. Despite this, pre-orders proceeded as planned in other regions, including the UK.

According to the FAQ on Nintendo's official website, the initial batch of invitations for pre-ordering through the My Nintendo Store will be dispatched starting May 8, 2025. There's currently no information available regarding retail pre-orders. Nintendo has also stated that additional batches of invitation emails will be sent out periodically until the My Nintendo Store opens pre-orders to everyone.

The initial invitations will be sent on a first-come, first-served basis to those registrants who meet specific priority criteria. Invitees will have a 72-hour window from the receipt of the email to finalize their purchase.

To be eligible for priority invitations for Nintendo Switch 2 pre-orders, you must meet the following criteria:

  • You must have purchased any Nintendo Switch Online membership.
  • You must have maintained any paid Nintendo Switch Online membership for at least 12 months.
  • You must have opted in to share gameplay data and have accumulated at least 50 hours of total gameplay.

There has been no confirmation from Nintendo about maintaining its previously announced pricing for the Switch 2, its games, and accessories, or if there will be an increase. Some analysts are concerned that the ongoing tariff war might push Nintendo to raise the base price of the Switch 2 above $449.99, though no official statement has been released yet.

It's noteworthy that Nintendo is offering a bundle deal that includes the Nintendo Switch 2 and Mario Kart World for $499.99, effectively reducing the game's price by $30. This bundle, however, is available for a limited time only.
