IDW's official synopsis for issue #5 reads:
The second installment in the legendary Last Ronin saga reaches its fiery and climactic conclusion! New York's streets are engulfed in an all-out war, and no one is safe. Casey, April, Odyn, Yi, Moja, and Uno find themselves in the crosshairs. Will everyone survive? The fate of these beloved characters rests in the hands of the legendary writers Kevin Eastman & Tom Waltz as this chapter of The Last Ronin saga draws to a close.
"One of our goals was to refresh the characters," Eastman shared with IGN in 2024. "We've introduced two male and two female Turtle characters, and Tom and I have been keen on capturing the essence of teenage dialogue and behavior. There's a diverse mix of personalities, reminiscent of the original Turtles. They deeply love their family, yet they don't always get along. They might argue, bicker, and disagree, but when it's time to unite as a team, the heart and soul of their family bond is what keeps them strong. This is the cornerstone of everything we do with the Turtles."
