Top Khonshu Decks for Marvel Snap Revealed

Discard players, rejoice. Khonshu, the God of the Moon, has joined *Marvel Snap*, bringing an innovative tool for discard-centric decks. As one of the most intricate cards released by Second Dinner, let's dive deeper into how Khonshu operates and how you can leverage his potential.

How Khonshu Works in Marvel Snap

Khonshu is a 6-cost, 5-power card with a unique ability: When discarded, it returns in its next phase. On Reveal, Khonshu resurrects a card you discarded to another location, setting its power to 5.

Khonshu's 'next phase' evolves into a 6-cost, 8-power card. When discarded, it returns in its final phase. On Reveal, it resurrects a discarded card to another location, boosting its power to 8.

Khonshu's 'final phase' transforms into a 6-cost, 12-power card. On Reveal, it resurrects a discarded card to another location, enhancing its power to 12.

As you can see, each time Khonshu is discarded, he returns to your hand and upgrades, making his On Reveal effect progressively more impactful. This mechanic mirrors the behavior of Apocalypse, allowing for strategic plays.

The typical strategy with Khonshu is to discard him one or two times before playing him on the final turn. This allows you to resurrect a card that benefits from a power boost, such as Iron Man or Gorr the God Butcher.

While Khonshu's inability to revive a specific card is a limitation, playing a 12-power final phase Khonshu on turn 6 to revive a 1-cost card like Meek can often clinch victory.

Best Day One Khonshu Decks in Marvel Snap

It will take some experimentation to determine the best deck for Khonshu, as he may not fit seamlessly into traditional discard strategies. Instead, I envision him fitting well into a Darkhawk-style Stature deck, as well as some alternative discard-type decks. Let's explore the former:

  • Korg
  • Blade
  • Fenris Wolf
  • Juggernaut
  • Moon Knight
  • Lady Sif
  • Rock Slide
  • Silver Samurai
  • Darkhawk
  • Black Bolt
  • Stature
  • Khonshu

The only Series 5 card in this list is Fenris Wolf, which is crucial as resurrecting an opponent's discarded card from Moon Knight, Silver Samurai, or Black Bolt can be a win condition in itself.

The strategy with this deck is straightforward: fill your opponent's deck with rocks to amplify Darkhawk's power and discard Khonshu as frequently as possible. Besides Fenris Wolf, Rock Slide, and Silver Samurai, Moon Knight and Blade will consistently target Khonshu. The key is timing your discards correctly—ensuring Moon Knight hits Khonshu rather than Rock Slide, for example.

From there, play Stature early to set up for Darkhawk on turn 5 and Khonshu on turn 6, resurrecting a card with 8-12 power. Since all these cards have less than 8 power, Khonshu directly boosts their effectiveness.

While Khonshu may not fit perfectly into traditional discard decks alongside Apocalypse due to his 6-cost, there's room for experimentation. In the following list, energy ramp comes from Corvus Glaive:

  • Miek
  • Scorn
  • Blade
  • Morbius
  • Swarm
  • Moon Knight
  • Corvus Glaive
  • Lady Sif
  • Dracula
  • MODOK
  • Khonshu
  • Apocalypse

The only Series 5 card here is Scorn, which can be replaced by another discard activator like Colleen Wing or X-23 for additional energy ramp.

This deck leans towards a traditional discard style but hinges on playing Corvus Glaive on turn 3 to enable dropping Khonshu alongside other discard activators. This setup aims to significantly boost Apocalypse and flood the board. Whether this will outperform traditional discard decks without Khonshu is yet to be seen, but with Moon Knight, Blade, and Lady Sif, reaching Khonshu's final phase while keeping Apocalypse strong for Dracula is achievable.

Is Khonshu Worth Spotlight Cache Keys or Collector’s Tokens?

Regardless of your affinity for discard strategies, Khonshu stands out as both powerful and intriguing. He is likely to become a key component in several hybrid discard decks and could very well become meta-relevant. If you have the resources, picking up Khonshu is a worthwhile investment.
