Vincent D'Onofrio Discusses Wilson Fisk's Movie Rights Issues

By RileyMay 14,2025

It seems that fans of the iconic villain Wilson Fisk, portrayed by Vincent D’Onofrio, might not see him on the big screen anytime soon. In a recent interview on the Happy Sad Confused podcast with Josh Horowitz, D’Onofrio shed light on the challenges surrounding his character's use in films. "The only thing I know is not positive," he stated, emphasizing the complexities of Marvel's rights and ownership issues. "It's a very hard thing to do, for Marvel to use my character. It's a very hard thing to do, because of ownership and stuff."

D’Onofrio elaborated that his portrayal of Fisk is currently limited to television appearances, dashing hopes of seeing him in a standalone Wilson Fisk movie or any Marvel Cinematic Universe films, including the upcoming Spider-Man: Brand New Day and Avengers: Doomsday. This restriction could also impact potential projects like a Charlie Cox Daredevil movie, where Fisk's presence as the villain would be anticipated.

D’Onofrio first brought Wilson Fisk, also known as Kingpin, to life in the 2015 Netflix series Marvel’s Daredevil. The series, which ran for three seasons and concluded in 2018 with nearly 40 episodes, garnered widespread acclaim for D’Onofrio's nuanced performance. His dedication to the role is evident in how he draws inspiration from classic performances. In a conversation with IGN, D’Onofrio shared his admiration for the likes of Harrison Ford and Gary Cooper, particularly their ability to infuse action scenes with a sense of humility and realism. "Anytime they were in a fight, or they were holding a gun, they looked nervous," he noted, highlighting how such authenticity enhances the action.

Currently, fans can catch D’Onofrio reprising his role in Daredevil: Born Again, which is airing weekly on Disney+ and is set to conclude its first season on April 15, 2025.
