Tencent, the Chinese technology giant, has significantly increased its investment in Kuro Games, the developer of popular mobile games Wuthering Waves and Punishing: Gray Raven. This move grants Tencent majority ownership.

Tencent's Increased Investment in Kuro Games

Tencent's share acquisition brings its total ownership to approximately 51.4%. This follows a previous investment in 2023 and the departure of other shareholders, solidifying Tencent's position as the sole external investor and giving them controlling interest.

Maintaining Independence

Despite the significant investment, Kuro Games assures continued operational independence. Internal sources, as reported by Youxi Putao, suggest a model similar to Tencent's relationships with Riot Games (League of Legends, Valorant) and Supercell (Clash of Clans, Brawl Stars). Kuro Games' official statement emphasizes that this change will foster a more stable environment and support its long-term independent strategy. Tencent has yet to release an official statement.

Kuro Games' Success

Kuro Games has achieved considerable success with both Punishing: Gray Raven and Wuthering Waves, each generating over $120 million USD in revenue. Wuthering Waves, in particular, has garnered critical acclaim, earning a Players' Voice nomination at The Game Awards. Both titles continue to receive regular updates.
