Xbox Game Pass Ultimate: Stream Select Games on Consoles

By JonathanMay 18,2025

Xbox Game Pass Ultimate members now have an exciting new perk: the ability to stream select games directly to their Xbox consoles without the need for downloads. This feature, announced in an Xbox Wire news post, allows streaming from the Game Pass catalog and "select games they own" on Xbox Series X, S, and Xbox One consoles via cloud streaming. Previously, this functionality was available on smart TVs, PCs, smartphones, and Meta Quest headsets, but this marks its debut on Xbox consoles, offering a convenient way to save time and hard drive space.

To access this feature, Xbox provides the following instructions:

  • Go to My games & apps > Full library > Owned Games.
  • Cloud playable games will display a cloud badge on the game page. Use filters to find games more quickly by selecting Filter > Ready to play > Cloud gaming.
  • To start playing, select the game and then choose Play with Cloud Gaming.
  • Start streaming directly from the Store app after buying select cloud playable games.

Conversely, users can stream any game installed on their Xbox consoles to devices with supported web browsers via a provided link. Note that this feature is no longer available on the Xbox mobile app but can still be accessed on phones through the browser link. Xbox is also expanding this feature to Samsung and Amazon Fire smart TVs, as well as Meta Quest headsets.

Additionally, Xbox announced that starting this month, Xbox and Xbox 360 backward compatible games will support remote play, enhancing the flexibility of gaming options for users.

This development is part of Xbox's broader effort to manage storage space on its consoles. The Xbox Wire post highlights a new feature in the console's settings that suggests ways to free up hard drive space, located in the My Games & Apps > Manage menu. This initiative comes in response to the increasing size of game installations, such as Call of Duty and Baldur's Gate 3. For those needing additional storage, we've outlined some of the best storage options for the Xbox Series X and S, especially if you're not ready to invest in the new models with enhanced built-in storage.
