Alienware Slashes Prices on RTX 4090 Gaming PCs

By CharlotteApr 07,2025

The GeForce RTX 4090, though a generation older than the new Blackwell 50 series GPUs, remains one of the most powerful graphics cards available. It outshines the GeForce RTX 5080, RTX 4080 Super, Radeon RX 9070 XT, and RX 7900 XTX. The only GPU that surpasses it is the RTX 5090, which is notoriously hard to find without a significant markup.

With the RTX 4090 now discontinued, finding one has become more challenging. However, Dell offers two prebuilt gaming PC models equipped with this GPU at competitive prices. The Alienware Aurora R16 gaming PC starts at $2,999.99, while the Dell Tower Plus gaming PC starts at $2,849.99. These are currently the best deals for an RTX 4090-equipped system, as other manufacturers like Lenovo and HP have stopped offering RTX 4090 prebuilt PCs.

$2,999.99 at Alienware

This Alienware Aurora R16 gaming PC comes with an Intel Core Ultra 7 265F CPU, GeForce RTX 4090 GPU, 16GB of DDR5-5200MHz RAM, and a 1TB NVMe SSD. The processor can be upgraded to an Intel Core Ultra 9 285K, though for gaming-focused setups, the default Intel Core Ultra 7 265F is sufficient. It boasts a max turbo frequency of 5.3GHz and 20 cores, cooled by a 240mm all-in-one liquid cooler. The system is powered by a 1,000W 80PLUS Platinum power supply.

This Dell Tower Plus gaming PC features similar specs, including an Intel Core Ultra 7 265F CPU, GeForce RTX 4090 GPU, 16GB of DDR5-5200MHz RAM, and a 1TB NVMe SSD. Upgrading to the Intel Core Ultra 7 285K for an additional $100 is recommended, as it enhances the CPU cooling from standard to advanced air cooling, supporting a higher 125W TDP. The system is powered by a 1,000W 80PLUS Platinum power supply.

How Does the RTX 4090 Stack Up Against Current Cards?

The RTX 4090 is the most powerful RTX 40 series GPU available. Only the RTX 5090, with its $2,000 MSRP, outperforms it. This card can handle any game at 4K resolution, achieving over 60 fps with max settings and ray tracing enabled, especially when using DLSS. The only setting it struggles with is path tracing, which is rarely used outside of benchmarks and social media showcases. For most gamers, the RTX 4090 offers more than enough power for all gaming needs.

Nvidia GeForce RTX 4090 GPU Review by Chris Coke

"The RTX 4090 may be large and pricey, but its performance is unmatched. It's the only card of its generation currently available, making comparisons with older models inevitable. Yet, with its impressive specs and DLSS 3 AI technology, the $1,599 price tag feels justified for the exceptional frame rates it delivers."

Dell also offers an Alienware Aurora R16 with the new GeForce RTX 5080 GPU for $2,499.99. The RTX 5080 is part of the new Blackwell series, but its performance edge over the RTX 4080 is minimal, making it less appealing for those with recent high-end GPUs. However, it's a great option for those upgrading from older cards, especially with the added benefits of DLSS 4 Multi-Frame Generation.
