April Fool's Day has passed, marking another year of playful pranks in the gaming world. However, the jest from the Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 team might leave a lasting impression.
Yesterday, Focus Entertainment, the publisher of Space Marine 2, announced a fictional Chaplain class as DLC, set for release on April 1.
“In campaign mode, replace Titus with The Chaplain to play as a devout, Codex-abiding Ultramarine,” Focus stated, likely chuckling from their offices.
This mock ‘DLC’ introduced a new playable character for the campaign, complete with an ‘Enhanced Dialogue System.’ Every five minutes, The Chaplain would declare, “The Codex Astartes forbids this action,” and “I’ll report this to the Inquisition.”
The Chaplain’s unique Discipline ability would flag “any minor Codex violations for a 5% discipline boost (but a -20% camaraderie penalty).

The humor lands because players of Space Marine 2’s campaign know Chaplain Quintus relentlessly scrutinizes Titus for heresy, despite Titus’ unwavering loyalty to the Imperium, Ultramarines, and Emperor.
As Titus fights Tyranids and the Thousand Sons, it’s evident he’s unique, which Quintus distrusts intensely. He’s like an overzealous hall monitor, quick to report any rule-breaking. The Chaplain is widely disliked.
The Chaplain has become a meme in the Space Marine community, a status this April Fool’s prank cleverly taps into. Yet, some fans genuinely want The Chaplain as a playable warrior-priest, devoted to the Emperor, though perhaps with a different skill set.
“This would be epic if real,” posted ResidentDrama9739 on the Space Marine subreddit, sparking lively discussion about how The Chaplain could fit into the game.
Space Marine 2 is indeed getting a new class soon, though Focus and Saber Interactive haven’t revealed it yet. Fans speculate it might be the Apothecary, a medic-like role, or the Librarian, with its warp-powered magic. Does the Chaplain’s prank appearance rule him out?
Despite the surprise reveal of Space Marine 3’s development, Space Marine 2’s first-year roadmap continues. Patch 7 arrives mid-April, with a new class, PvE missions, and melee weapons planned for the coming months.
