Atelier Yumia: Memory Alchemy and Land Synthesis Guide

By ClaireMar 28,2025

One of the most intricate aspects of *Atelier Yumia: The Alchemist of Memories & the Envisioned Land* is the Synthesis mechanic, which is deeply integrated into the game's core. Every resource you gather and weapon you craft is connected to it. Here's how to maximize its potential.

Synthesis Types in Atelier Yumia

In *Atelier Yumia*, there are three distinct types of Synthesis:

  • Regular Synthesis conducted at an Alchemist's altar
  • Simple Synthesis done from the radial menu
  • Building Synthesis done from the building mode

To craft weapons, armor, battle accessories, magical items, and materials required for Synthesis, you must use the regular Synthesis mechanic, which is only available at an Alchemist’s altar. Early in the game, you unlock the Atelier, which you can return to at any time to Synthesize. In areas where you can build—such as plots of land cleared from manabound zones and campsites across the regions—you can construct and place a Simple Altar, enabling regular Synthesis.

You can perform Simple Synthesis anytime outside of battle in *Atelier Yumia* via the radial menu. This allows you to craft bandages, gauntlets for ziplines, and various repair kits to fix treasure chests, ladders, and more, provided you have the necessary resources.

Lastly, the building mode, also accessed through the radial menu, is available on specific plots of land. Although not explicitly labeled as Synthesis, Yumia is indeed Synthesizing storage chests and wall hangings. The game's story often refers to this as Synthesis, so keep that in mind to avoid confusion.

How to Synthesize Equipment in Atelier Yumia

Synthesis in Atelier Yumia.

The most complex aspect of Synthesis is the regular form performed at altars. To craft, for instance, a gun staff for Yumia, you first need to find the recipe while exploring the world. You can also upgrade existing gun staff recipes using particles found at mana fountains at a Recipe Recall Station. Here’s what you need to do at an Alchemist’s altar:

  1. Select the type of gun staff you wish to create
  2. Select Synthesis Skills (if unlocked in the skill tree)
  3. Choose the initial Alchemy Core to build upon:
    • Effects Alchemy Core increases the selected skills
    • Quality Alchemy Core increases the quality level of the completed item
    • Trait Alchemy Core increases the number of Trait Crystal slots you can socket into the item
  4. Fill the slots of each Alchemy Core with resources you’ve collected
  5. Try to collect mana fragments to further increase the quality
  6. Once finished, Synthesize the item

The key to crafting powerful items early in *Atelier Yumia* is to unlock Synthesis Skills from the Synthesis section of the skill tree as soon as possible. These skills provide flat damage and quality boosts to the item and allow you to duplicate items, thereby conserving resources.

You can enhance the item's quality by adding resources to all three Alchemy Cores. To do this, press the left or right bumper while filling the slots in a specific core. Collecting the mana fragments—the yellow sparkles surrounding an Alchemy Core—for all three cores significantly boosts the item's strength. This is a strategy you should employ most of the time, unless you're crafting a quest item.

Additionally, don’t overlook adding resources that match the element type of specific slots. Resources that match will have a blue outline around them. You can organize your resources from the submenu to prioritize higher-quality ones, although you might want to focus on effects instead.

If the complex mechanics seem daunting, you can opt for the auto-Synthesis feature after selecting your Synthesis Skills. The game excels at creating the best possible item, allowing you to tackle the final boss on Normal difficulty without much difficulty.

And that’s everything you need to know to fully leverage the Synthesis mechanic in *Atelier Yumia*.
