Bayonetta Celebrates 15 Years with Year-Long Event

Bayonetta's 15th Anniversary: A Year of Celebrations

PlatinumGames is commemorating the 15th anniversary of Bayonetta with a year-long celebration, expressing gratitude to fans for their unwavering support. The original game, released in 2009 (Japan) and 2010 (worldwide), garnered critical acclaim for its innovative gameplay and stylish action, a hallmark of director Hideki Kamiya's work. This success propelled the franchise to subsequent installments on Nintendo platforms.

Bayonetta, a powerful Umbra Witch wielding guns, martial arts, and magical hair, quickly became a fan-favorite video game anti-heroine. While Sega published the first title across various platforms, Nintendo secured publishing rights for the sequels, releasing them exclusively on Wii U and Nintendo Switch. The prequel, Bayonetta Origins: Cereza and the Lost Demon, further expanded the lore, and Bayonetta herself made appearances in Super Smash Bros. games.

PlatinumGames recently announced a "Bayonetta 15th Anniversary Year" for 2025, promising special announcements and merchandise throughout the year. While specifics remain under wraps, the developer encourages fans to follow their social media channels for updates.

Celebrating 15 Years of Bayonetta

Already underway are exciting anniversary initiatives. Wayo Records has launched a limited-edition Bayonetta music box, showcasing the Super Mirror design and playing "Theme Of Bayonetta - Mysterious Destiny," composed by Masami Ueda. PlatinumGames is also releasing monthly Bayonetta-themed smartphone wallpapers, with January's featuring Bayonetta and Jeanne in kimonos.

Even after 15 years, the original Bayonetta remains influential, refining stylish action gameplay pioneered by Devil May Cry. Its unique mechanics, such as Witch Time, laid the groundwork for future PlatinumGames hits like Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance and Nier: Automata. Fans eagerly anticipate the forthcoming announcements throughout this special anniversary year.
