Years of fervent pleas from Bloodborne fans for a remastered version of the FromSoftware classic have reached a fever pitch, fueled by recent Instagram activity.
Instagram Posts Reignite Bloodborne Remaster Hype
A Beloved Classic Deserves a Modern Update
Bloodborne, the critically acclaimed 2015 RPG, holds a special place in the hearts of many gamers. The desire to revisit Yharnam's gothic streets on modern consoles is widespread. While no official announcement has been made, recent posts on FromSoftware and PlayStation Italia's Instagram accounts featuring the game have sparked intense speculation.
On August 24th, FromSoftware shared three images showcasing the game's title and the hashtag "#bloodborne." These included Djura, a memorable hunter encountered in Old Yharnam, along with scenes depicting the Hunter exploring Yharnam's core and the Charnel Lane graveyards.
While these posts might simply be a nostalgic throwback, dedicated Bloodborne fans across platforms like Twitter (now X) are meticulously analyzing every detail, searching for clues hinting at a long-awaited remaster. The timing, particularly with a similar post from PlayStation Italia on August 17th, has only amplified this excitement.
PlayStation Italia's post, translated, asked fans to choose their favorite iconic Bloodborne location, sparking a flurry of comments expressing the desire for a Yharnam return, with some playfully suggesting a PC or next-gen console release as the most iconic location.
The Hunt for a Modern Bloodborne Continues—Almost a Decade Later
Released exclusively for PS4 in 2015, Bloodborne cultivated a fiercely loyal fanbase, earning widespread praise and recognition as one of gaming's greatest achievements. Yet, a sequel or remaster remains elusive.
Fans often cite the 2020 Demon's Souls remake (originally released in 2009) as a potential precedent. However, this also fuels concerns about the potential timeframe. Given Demon's Souls' over-a-decade wait for a remake, fears linger that Bloodborne might suffer a similar extended delay. As the game's tenth anniversary approaches, anticipation is at an all-time high.
Fuel was added to the fire in a February Eurogamer interview with Bloodborne director Hidetaka Miyazaki. While not offering concrete confirmation, Miyazaki acknowledged the advantages of remastering the game for modern hardware: "I think having new hardware is definitely a part of what gives these remakes value... I think purely from a user perspective, modern hardware also allows more players to appreciate all the games. And so, it ends up being a simple reason, but as a fellow player, I think that accessibility is important."
Despite this encouraging sentiment, the final decision rests not with FromSoftware. Unlike Elden Ring, which FromSoftware fully publishes, Bloodborne's rights remain with Sony. Miyazaki clarified in a separate IGN interview: "Unfortunately, and I’ve said this in other interviews, it’s not in my place to talk about Bloodborne specifically... We simply don’t own the IP at FromSoftware."
Bloodborne's devoted community eagerly awaits a remaster. Despite critical acclaim and strong sales, Sony hasn't yet expanded its availability beyond the PS4. Whether the current speculation translates into reality remains to be seen.
