Awesome Games Done Quick 2025 surpasses fundraising goals, exceeding $2.5 Million for Cancer Research
The Awesome Games Done Quick (AGDQ) 2025 event, held from January 5th to 13th, successfully raised over $2.5 million for the Prevent Cancer Foundation (PCF). This surpasses the 2024 total by over $100,000, demonstrating the continued success of this annual speedrunning marathon. The event featured a diverse lineup of speedruns, showcasing games like Crazy Taxi, Super Metroid, and many others across various genres.
AGDQ is one of two major annual events hosted by Games Done Quick (GDQ), alongside the Summer Games Done Quick marathon in July. GDQ also organizes smaller events throughout the year, such as Frame Fatales and GDQ Express. Noteworthy is the October 2024 Disaster Relief Done Quick event, which raised over $45,000 for Direct Relief in response to Hurricane Helene.
The AGDQ 2025 event in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, kicked off with a speedrun of Pikmin (Switch version) by Ray0ken. The event's remarkable fundraising success significantly contributes to the PCF's mission of early cancer detection, prevention, research, and community outreach. This collaboration between GDQ and PCF has yielded over $26 million in donations across multiple events.
A standout moment was a unique Crazy Taxi speedrun by Chuckles825, accompanied by a live band performing cover versions of the game's music to circumvent copyright restrictions. This 18-minute run generated over $24,000 in donations.
The event concluded with a thrilling four-player randomized race of Super Metroid (SNES), resulting in an incredibly close finish. GDQ will next host Summer Games Done Quick 2025 in Minneapolis, Minnesota, from July 6th onwards, benefiting Doctors Without Borders.
