Choosing Your Path in Citizen Sleeper 2: A Class Guide

At the outset of Citizen Sleeper 2, you'll face a crucial decision: selecting your character's class. Operator, Machinist, and Extractor each offer unique strengths and weaknesses, impacting your gameplay experience. This guide analyzes each class, considering both mechanics and roleplaying aspects to help you make the best choice.

Operator

The Operator starts with a bonus in Interface, foundational levels in Intuit and Engage, and no Engineer skills. Endure is unavailable for leveling. Their unique ability allows them to trade Stress for a re-roll of their lowest die.

While powerful later on, the Operator can feel challenging in the early game. The Interface skill is a valuable asset, but the re-roll ability isn't always a game-changer. Roleplaying-wise, the Operator's versatility allows for diverse character interpretations.

Machinist

The Machinist begins with a bonus in Engineer, base levels in Interface and Intuit, and no Endure. Engage is not levelable. Their ability lets them exchange Stress for a +2 bonus to their lowest die, further enhanced as the game progresses, and they lose 2 Stress on a positive outcome.

The Machinist proved to be a favorite in my playthrough. The ability to mitigate Stress is incredibly helpful, especially given the game's inherent tension. The starting skills are well-suited for frequent Engineer and Interface checks. This class suits players focused on the technical and mechanical aspects of the game's world.

Extractor

The Extractor starts with a bonus in Endure, base levels in Engineer and Engage, and lacks Interface skills. Intuit is unavailable for leveling. Their ability involves trading Stress to add +2 to their crew's lowest die, with upgrades enhancing crew member rolls throughout the game.

The Extractor's ability is highly effective for mitigating Contract risks by boosting crew performance. The initial Endure bonus is advantageous, given the game's frequent Endure checks. However, the abundance of crew members with Endure and Engage might lead to skill redundancy. This class is ideal for players who prefer a more physically robust and crew-focused approach.

This guide provides a comprehensive overview to aid your class selection in Citizen Sleeper 2. Choose wisely, and may your dice rolls favor you!
