The critically acclaimed series *Shōgun*, which swept up 18 Emmy Awards and 4 Golden Globes, is gearing up for an eagerly anticipated second season. Cosmo Jarvis, who brilliantly portrayed pilot John Blackthorn, has confirmed his return for Season 2 and will also step into the role of co-executive producer, as announced in an official press release from FX.
Moreover, lead actor Hiroyuki Sanada, who committed to Season 2 last May following the show's renewal from its initial limited series format, has been elevated to the position of executive producer after his contributions to the first season. Production for the new season is slated to kick off in January 2026, with filming set to take place in Vancouver, the same location as the original series.
FX has described the upcoming second season of *Shōgun* as "a wholly original new chapter to the first season," which was an adaptation of James Clavell’s novel. The network provided insight into the narrative bridge between the two seasons:
"In the first season, Lord Yoshii Toranaga (Sanada) fought for his survival as his enemies in the Council of Regents united against him. When a mysterious European ship was found marooned in a nearby village, its English pilot John Blackthorne (Jarvis) shared vital strategic secrets with Toranaga that tipped the scales of power in his favor to win a century-defining civil war.
"Part two of *Shōgun* is set 10 years after the events of the first season and continues the historically-inspired saga of these two men from different worlds whose fates are inextricably entwined."
Fans of the series can look forward to new episodes potentially by the end of 2026, but for now, all we can do is wait and keep our hopes high.
