According to Deadline, the previously shelved Warner Bros. movie, Coyote vs. Acme, may still make it to the big screen. Los Angeles-based independent film production and distribution company Ketchup Entertainment is reportedly "deep in sale negotiations" to acquire this completed film, which many believed had been permanently scrapped.
While the deal is not finalized yet, a successful negotiation could lead to a theatrical release of Coyote vs. Acme in 2026. The film, announced in 2022 and inspired by Ian Frazier's 1990 New Yorker article of the same name, was co-written by James Gunn and features stars Will Forte and John Cena. Originally slated for a mid-2023 release on Max, it was unfortunately shelved despite being fully filmed. Since then, a concerted campaign to save it has been actively pursued.
Ketchup Entertainment has previously saved another Warner Bros. project, The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie, from a similar fate. By securing its release in U.S. cinemas, Ketchup Entertainment ensured the film became the first fully animated Looney Tunes movie to hit theaters. IGN's review praised it as a "laugh-out-loud riot."
Ketchup Entertainment's portfolio includes other notable releases such as Hellboy: The Crooked Man and the Robert Rodriguez thriller Hypnotic, starring Ben Affleck. The company also co-produced Michael Mann's 2023 Ferrari biopic, demonstrating its commitment to bringing diverse and exciting films to audiences.
