Cyberpunk 2077 fans were once buzzing with excitement over a rumored ambitious DLC set in space, specifically on the Moon. Despite the project being shelved, blogger and dataminer SirMZK has unearthed leaks and files from the game’s code, giving us a glimpse into what CD Projekt RED had planned for this cosmic expansion.
Within the game’s files, SirMZK found references to lunar surface maps, structured zones such as the Exterior Movie Set and Drug Lab, and even a model of a rover. The Moon location was envisioned to be massive, possibly covering a quarter of the size of Night City, and designed as an open-world area. This would have significantly expanded the gameplay experience, transporting players from the familiar neon-lit streets to the lunar landscape.
A highlight of the proposed DLC could have been the Crystal Palace, an elite space station. Although it didn't make it into the final game, players can catch a fleeting glimpse of the Crystal Palace in one of the endings, where V looks out of a spaceship window. Furthermore, files indicate a prototype for a zero-gravity bar linked to a cut quest called "201," which was part of the Arasaka storyline.
Fans remain hopeful that these innovative ideas might find their way into CD Projekt RED’s upcoming project, Orion, which aims to further expand the Cyberpunk universe. However, there has been no official word from the studio about reusing these concepts.
While the Moon DLC remains a dream that never came to fruition, the uncovered details paint an intriguing picture of what could have been—an audacious leap for Cyberpunk 2077 into uncharted territory, seamlessly blending space exploration with the game's distinctive cyberpunk style.
