Daredevil: Born Again's Muse Explained: Who Is Matt Murdock and Wilson Fisk's New Enemy?

By RyanMar 15,2025

Disney+ has unveiled a new trailer for Daredevil: Born Again, premiering March 4th. This footage confirms a surprising twist revealed in the D23 trailer: Daredevil and Kingpin, longtime adversaries, are teaming up against a common enemy. This unlikely alliance seems tied to a new villain, the artistically-inclined serial killer, Muse.

But who is Muse, and what makes this superhuman murderer a threat so significant it forces Daredevil and Kingpin to cooperate? Let's delve into this twisted Marvel villain.

Who Is Muse?

Muse, a relatively recent addition to Daredevil's rogues' gallery, debuted in 2016's Daredevil #11, created by Charles Soule and Ron Garney (Soule himself confirmed Muse's appearance in the D23 footage). He's a serial killer who views murder as the ultimate artistic expression. His debut involved a mural painted with the blood of a hundred missing persons, followed by a macabre composition using the corpses of six Inhumans.

Muse's danger to Daredevil is amplified by his unique ability: his body acts as a sensory black hole, disrupting Matt Murdock's radar sense. Combined with superhuman strength and speed, this makes him exceptionally deadly.

His rivalry with Daredevil and Blindspot intensifies after he blinds Blindspot. Even after Daredevil apprehends him, Muse self-mutilates to prevent further artistic creation. However, his hands are later healed, and he resumes his killing spree, fixating on New York's vigilantes, creating twisted monuments to figures like the Punisher, coinciding with Mayor Wilson Fisk's crackdown on vigilantism. This leads to a final confrontation with Blindspot, where Muse ultimately commits suicide.

While his death occurred in 2018's Daredevil #600, his return in the Marvel Universe is entirely plausible.

Muse in Daredevil: Born Again

The Daredevil: Born Again D23 and subsequent trailers confirm Muse's appearance, though the actor portraying him remains undisclosed. He's depicted in a costume mirroring his comic book counterpart: a white mask and bodysuit with red "bloody tears." Scenes showing him battling Daredevil have also been revealed.

This suggests Born Again, despite sharing its title with the iconic 1986 storyline, draws inspiration from more contemporary Daredevil comics. While the original Born Again focused on Fisk's discovery of Daredevil's identity, the series seems to take a different path, especially considering Fisk already knows Daredevil's identity in the MCU.

The show hints at an alliance between Daredevil and Fisk, shown meeting in a diner. Matt threatens Fisk, prompting Fisk's cryptic response, suggesting a new threat necessitates their cooperation.

Could Muse be that threat? Born Again seems to be heading towards a status quo mirroring Soule and Zdarsky's Daredevil comics. Fisk's mayoral ambitions (seen in Echo's post-credits scene) and his subsequent election are suggested in the trailer. Fisk's anti-vigilante platform, mirroring the comics, puts him at odds with Muse, whose glorification of vigilantes like the Punisher directly contradicts Fisk's agenda.

Therefore, Muse might be the common enemy uniting Daredevil and Mayor Fisk. Daredevil seeks to stop a killer, while Fisk aims to eliminate a threat to his mayoral authority. This forces an uneasy alliance, even though Fisk is actively trying to eradicate heroes like Daredevil.

The series will also feature the Punisher and White Tiger, likely caught in the crossfire of Fisk's crusade. Muse's actions will probably further inflame the situation by glorifying these vigilantes through his artwork.

While the Daredevil/Fisk rivalry remains central, Muse emerges as an immediate threat, potentially Daredevil's most challenging opponent yet, making his alliance with Fisk a necessity.
