Days Gone Remastered was a highlight of Sony's recent State of Play showcase, but the announcement of a $10 upgrade has left some PlayStation Plus subscribers feeling frustrated.
Sony has clarified that the $10 upgrade to the remastered version for PlayStation 5 is exclusively available to those who own the PlayStation 4 version either on disc or digitally. Unfortunately, this means that players who obtained Days Gone through the PS Plus subscription service, including those who got it from the now-defunct PS Plus Collection or as an Essential monthly game in April 2021, are not eligible for the discounted upgrade. Instead, they must purchase the full PS5 remastered version at $49.99.
This decision has sparked a wave of discontent among PS Plus subscribers, many of whom have taken to social media to voice their grievances. On the PlayStation Plus subreddit, numerous comments reflect the sentiment that while subscribers would be willing to pay $10 to upgrade to the PS5 version, they are not prepared to pay the full price for the remaster.
For instance, user squarejellyfish_ pointed out, "They would actually have made a decent chunk of change if PS Plus players were eligible, even if most didn’t want to play it they’d at least be interested in paying 10 bucks to try it out for an hour or two." Similarly, teckn9ne79 stated, "They should let Essentials upgrade cause I would pay the $10, but I will not buy it any other way. I will stick with the one I got."
Dredizzle99 echoed this frustration, saying, "There's no way I'm paying full price for this, but I'd happily pay for the upgrade at least just to check it out. Surely the majority of people that have it on PS Plus are thinking the same thing, so they're basically losing all the potential sales from them." Jackanyon95 added, "They gave away the game for free so every copy is an extra £10/$10 they wouldn't have had but they decided to be awkward instead and cut out half the owner base. I'm not paying full price, it didn't even need a remaster."
While some subscribers express disappointment, others are less surprised by Sony's approach, suggesting that the company likely made this decision after careful financial analysis. Despite this, Sony has faced criticism from its dedicated fanbase, with some calling the company "stingy" for not extending a more generous offer to PS Plus members.
