Conquering Lu Bu in Dynasty Warriors: Origins: A Comprehensive Guide
The game's constant reminders – "Among men, Lu Bu. Among horses, Red Hare." and "Do not pursue Lu Bu" – clearly warn against engaging Lu Bu. However, if you're up for the challenge, this guide provides a strategic approach to victory.
Should You Fight Lu Bu?
Battling Lu Bu is incredibly difficult; it might take over an hour. However, there are compelling reasons to face him:
- Bragging Rights: Defeating Lu Bu is a significant accomplishment.
- Forced Encounters: If you align with Shu or Wei, Chapter 4's Battle of Xiapi necessitates fighting him.
- Rewards: Victory at Hulao Gate awards the "The Strongest" trophy. Post-game victory unlocks the game's ultimate weapon, the halberd.
Phase 1: Mounted Lu Bu
Before the battle, optimize your equipment:
- Weapon: A multi-hit sword to stagger him is crucial.
- Battle Arts: Prioritize quick, wide-range arts requiring minimal Bravery (e.g., Falcon Flurry, Mad Blade Rush, Absconding Slash, Flying Dragon Slash).
- Accessories: Maximize health and defense with items like Divine Bird's Wing and Divine Turtle's Shell.
- Weapon Skill: A skill granting Bravery per Perfect Evade is highly beneficial.
Initially, Lu Bu rides Red Hare. He charges rapidly but pauses occasionally. Exploit these pauses to unleash Battle Arts, then retreat. His attacks, excluding Red Hare's jump attack, have limited area of effect, making evasion relatively easy. Once his health reaches 80%, he dismounts, initiating the next phase.
Phase 2: Unmounted Lu Bu
On foot, Lu Bu's attacks are swift and unpredictable. He often charges with a red aura, rendering him immune to staggering. Evade his charges (three in a sequence). If he charges without his spear, he attempts a grab; evade this as well.
His most dangerous move involves an orange glow, followed by three powerful ranged arrow volleys. Use a long-range Battle Art like Absconding Slash to counter this; close-range arts are ineffective. Keep your Musou gauge full for emergency invincibility.
Lu Bu is surprisingly susceptible to juggling. Maintain close proximity for better reaction time and to quickly recharge Battle Arts, breaking his Fortitude meter. Prioritize evasion consistently.
Phase 3: Musou Rage
Once Lu Bu's health is sufficiently depleted, he enters Musou Rage. He becomes unstaggerable and unleashes relentless attacks. The objective is to deplete his Fortitude before he uses his Musou attack. Use all available resources – Musou attacks, Battle Arts – to overwhelm him. Failing to break his Fortitude before his Musou attack will force a restart of this phase.
Victory!
By following these strategies, you can overcome Lu Bu in Dynasty Warriors: Origins, currently available on PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X/S.
