Dragon Quest 12 remains in active development, with series creator Yuji Horii reassuring fans that updates will be shared gradually. During a livestream with his radio show group KosoKoso Hōsō Kyoku, Horii mentioned that the team at Square Enix is diligently working on the game. This marks the first update since May 2024, when Horii had previously addressed the passing of key contributors Akira Toriyama and Koichi Sugiyama, and the transition of lead producer Yu Miyake to head Square Enix's mobile game division.
Amid concerns about potential cancellation due to restructuring at Square Enix and a lack of recent news, Horii's recent comments have alleviated fears by confirming that Dragon Quest 12 is still on track.
Announced during the series' 35th anniversary celebration, Dragon Quest 12 will be the first mainline entry since Dragon Quest 11: Echoes of an Elusive Age in 2017. In other news, Square Enix reported that the Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake has surpassed sales expectations, moving 2 million copies.
