Dynasty Warriors: Origins - How To Switch Characters

Quick Links

In Dynasty Warriors: Origins, you primarily play as the Wanderer, striving for peace. Your journey presents numerous choices impacting the main storyline, and you'll frequently have companions fighting alongside you. These companions remain steadfast throughout battles, though you can occasionally assume control. Their considerable power often surpasses the Wanderer's, even with upgrades. Here's how to switch characters:

How To Switch Characters In Dynasty Warriors: Origins

Character switching is limited to battles where a companion is present. Before a battle, during the war council, your companion will be listed as the final menu option. You can choose to fight alone, but companion switching isn't available then. Once the battle begins, your companion's health bar appears below yours in the bottom right corner.

Beneath their health bar is a blue bar, similar to your Musou gauge. This fills as you fight, accelerating with actions such as:

  • Parrying attacks
  • Perfect dodging
  • Assaulting Officers
  • Utilizing Weapon Arts

Most combat actions contribute to filling this bar, albeit at varying speeds.

A "Change Character" button appears next to the companion's blue bar once it's full. Press and hold this button for approximately one second to switch. This is typically the View button on Xbox, C on PC, or the Touchpad on PlayStation.

Playing As Other Characters In Dynasty Warriors: Origins

Switching characters is best utilized during intense battles. Companions are exceptionally powerful, and control lasts roughly a minute. The blue bar, which enabled the switch, gradually depletes, indicating the remaining time. Your new character starts with full Bravery and access to highly effective combat arts.

The character switch initiates with a powerful attack; aim carefully at an enemy. Your companion also retains a full Musou gauge and health bar, allowing immediate use of their special attack for devastating results.
