Dynasty Warriors Origins: Faction Selection Guide

By RyanFeb 12,2025

In Dynasty Warriors: Origins, like its predecessors, players engage in intense combat across ancient China, aligning themselves with various warlords. However, choosing a faction is a crucial decision. Here's a breakdown of faction selection in Dynasty Warriors: Origins.

Understanding Factions in Dynasty Warriors: Origins

The game unfolds across chapters. The first two chapters feature the Wanderer, the player character, acting independently. They assist Sun Jian, Cao Cao, and Liu Bei in battles, participating in pivotal events such as the Yellow Turban Rebellion and the Battle of Hulao Gate, without formally committing to any faction.

Chapter 3 presents the critical choice: aligning with one of the three factions (Sun Jian, Liu Bei, or Cao Cao). Before this point, the game provides opportunities to interact with each faction through battles, allowing players to gauge their preferences.

To progress beyond Chapter 3, players must complete a specific number of missions for each faction: three for Sun Jian, two for Liu Bei, and one for Cao Cao. Completing these unlocks a mission forcing a faction choice. Only factions with completed mission requirements become selectable allies. For instance, completing Cao Cao's missions first restricts the choice to Cao Cao or Liu Bei (unless Liu Bei's missions are also completed). Players can complete all missions before making their final decision.

The Consequences of Choice

Choosing a faction is permanent; the unselected factions become inaccessible for the remainder of the game. Side quests from their officers are unavailable, and player bonds with those officers cannot increase. This can impact gameplay difficulty; for example, aligning with Liu Bei, who initially has fewer commanding officers, might limit skill point acquisition opportunities from side quests.

Each faction offers unique missions. To experience all content, players should create a save file before making their choice, allowing them to replay the game with different allegiances.

In conclusion, selecting a faction in Dynasty Warriors: Origins is a strategic decision with lasting consequences. Dynasty Warriors: Origins is available on PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X/S.
