Explore a haunted Atari-style game in Spooky Pixel Hero, the follow-up to DERE Vengeance by Appsir

By RyanMar 22,2025

Appsir, the creators of the terrifyingly excellent DERE Vengeance, are back with a new mobile game: Spooky Pixel Hero. This retro-styled, meta-horror platformer plunges you into the shoes of a game developer tasked with debugging a mysterious 1976 platformer for a shadowy agency.

Prepare for over 120 levels of challenging platforming action. But be warned: the game's narrative transcends its pixelated world, hinting at sinister consequences far beyond a simple debugging job. The unsettling atmosphere and unsettling visuals evoke a chilling resemblance to Airdorf Games' Faith.

The game's pseudo-retro pixel art style effectively creates a dense and unnerving world, striking a balance between charmingly retro and disturbingly abstract. If DERE Vengeance is any indication, Spooky Pixel Hero promises a genuinely spooky experience, despite its seemingly lighthearted title.

Expect a chilling blend of hardcore platforming and meta-horror storytelling when Spooky Pixel Hero launches on August 12th for Google Play and the iOS App Store. In the meantime, explore our lists of the best and most anticipated mobile games of 2024 to find your next gaming obsession!
