Garena Free City, the latest addition to the developer's expansive lineup, is now open for pre-registration on both iOS and Android platforms across Southeast Asia, the Middle East, and Africa. If you're eagerly awaiting the next installment in a certain renowned series, Garena Free City might just be the perfect interim entertainment.
Let's be straightforward: Garena Free City is Garena's interpretation of Grand Theft Auto, set to launch on June 30th. Whether this is a positive or negative development hinges on your personal taste. At a glance, it might seem like a run-of-the-mill GTA mobile clone, but a closer look reveals intriguing potential.
For starters, the game boasts an impressive character customization system, reminiscent of The Sims, allowing detailed manipulation of individual features. Unlike the realistic style of GTA, Free City embraces a more fantastical approach, complete with giant robots and summonable power-ups like deployable cover.
**Bold & Brash** However, it's evident that much of the game is designed to mimic the allure of Grand Theft Auto Online. While the more unconventional elements are certainly eye-catching, this imitation might overshadow the game's unique aspects.
Garena's timing for releasing Free City could be better. Although I believe no single app can dominate a genre on mobile, the upcoming release of Ananta poses a significant challenge. Ananta promises a vast open world and bizarre side quests, much like Free City, but with a bolder approach. Ananta's distinct anime aesthetic might deter some, but it's this willingness to be different that I feel Free City lacks.
