GTA 5 Enhanced Edition Now Worst-Rated on Steam

By BrooklynMay 02,2025

Rockstar's latest iteration of *Grand Theft Auto 5*, known as *GTA 5 Enhanced*, has hit a snag on Steam since its release in early March. Launched on March 4, this version has garnered a 'mixed' user review rating, with just 54% of the 19,772 reviews being positive. This contrasts sharply with the original *GTA 5* on Steam, which, although now unlisted and not searchable due to Rockstar's request, boasts a 'very positive' rating.

Currently, *GTA 5 Enhanced* holds the title for the least favorably reviewed GTA game on Steam, falling below even *Grand Theft Auto III – The Definitive Edition*, which sits at a 66% positive review score. The Enhanced version offers a free upgrade for PC players of *GTA 5*, bringing features exclusive to the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S versions of *GTA Online*. These include access to Hao's Special Works for vehicles and performance upgrades, encounters with wildlife, and the opportunity to subscribe to a GTA+ Membership. Additionally, the update enhances graphics and reduces loading times. All existing *GTA 5* PC owners can upgrade for free and transfer their Story Mode and Online progress.

Despite these enhancements, the account migration process has been a significant hurdle for many players, fueling the bulk of negative feedback. Players have reported issues with migrating their existing *GTA Online* profiles, with one frustrated user stating, "‘The GTA Online profile associated with this Rockstar Games account is not eligible for migration at this time,’" and expressing unwillingness to abandon hundreds of hours of gameplay progress. Another user criticized the update as an "objective downgrade" and vowed to stick with the legacy version until *GTA 6* arrives, whenever that might be.

Further complaints echo the sentiment of migration difficulties and dissatisfaction with Rockstar's support, which many claim is unhelpful in resolving migration issues. One reviewer lamented, "I can't migrate either of my two accounts... With the game being over 10 years old I am sure as hell not going to completely restart all my progress in Online just to get marginally better graphics."

Despite these challenges, *GTA 5 Enhanced* has maintained a robust player base on Steam, achieving a peak concurrent player count of 187,059 since its launch. However, the issues have raised concerns among PC gamers about the upcoming release of *Grand Theft Auto 6*, with worries that similar problems could mar its launch.

*GTA 6* is set to launch in the fall of 2025 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S, leaving PC players awaiting a later release. A former Rockstar developer in December 2023 tried to reassure PC gamers by asking for patience and understanding regarding the staggered release schedule.

Meanwhile, Rockstar has also recently acquired *Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition* developer, Video Games Deluxe, renaming it Rockstar Australia.
