League of Legends Reverses Unpopular Changes

Hextech Chests Make a Comeback

League of Legends (LoL) has decided to bring back Hextech Chests after listening to their community. On February 27, 2025, Riot Games shared a detailed developer update on their website, accompanied by a video on their YouTube channel.

LoL admitted that their recent adjustments did not meet the expectations of their player base, stating, "Recently, we’ve made a number of changes that didn’t hit the mark for everyone. We’ve been listening to your feedback, and it’s clear that there are areas where we need to adjust."

The return of Hextech Chests was a significant demand from fans. LoL recognized this, explaining, "It’s clear that for many of you, Hextech Chests weren’t just a way to get stuff; they were an important part of making your time in League feel rewarding. We didn’t fully grasp how much this mattered to you, and that led us to make changes that missed the mark."

Starting with patch 25.05, players will once again be able to earn up to 10 Hextech Chests and keys per act. Eight of these will be available through the free pass, with the remaining two obtainable via the Honor system.

Exalted Mordekaiser Delay and Further Fan-Driven Changes

Riot Games also announced a delay for the Exalted Mordekaiser skin, as the development team aims to "take more time to make sure it better delivers on its core fantasy." This delay extends to the entire Exalted skin line, meaning fans won't see a new skin every Act as initially planned.

In response to additional fan feedback, LoL will replace one non-Prestige skin with 25 Mythic Essence, acknowledging "clear feedback that there’s both a lack of Mythic Essence on the paid Pass and that we’ve been doing more champions for each seasonal theme than makes sense."

Addressing concerns about champion accessibility, LoL will reduce the Blue Essence cost for all champions by 50% starting with patch 25.05. Additionally, Riot Games has decided to revert their previous decision to run Clash less frequently, now confirming that Clash will return to a monthly schedule, with March's event featuring ARURF and April's event a standard Summoner's Rift Clash.

Return of Blue Essence Emporium and Your Shop

Responding to widespread demand, LoL will also bring back the Blue Essence Emporium and Your Shop. Your Shop is scheduled for patch 25.06, and the Emporium for patch 25.07.

Riot Games emphasized their commitment to ongoing improvements, stating, "We know getting League to the right place isn’t about just one set of changes. It’s about continually refining and improving the game in ways that make it better. We think today’s updates are an important step, and we’ll keep tracking how these changes feel, talking with all of you about how things are landing, and making adjustments."
