"Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment Coming to Nintendo Switch 2"

By CharlotteApr 09,2025

It wouldn't be a Nintendo console without a Zelda, and the Nintendo Switch 2 is no exception, though it came in a form we weren't expecting. During today's Nintendo Direct, we learned that Koei Tecmo is making a new Hyrule Warriors game: a Tears of the Kingdom prequel called Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment. And it's coming out this winter.

PlayHyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment is another installment in the Hyrule Warriors series, but this time, it focuses on the cast of characters present in the ancient history sections of Tears of the Kingdom. Fans will see familiar faces like Zelda, alongside new allies such as Rauru, Sonia, and other Secret Stone holders. The game narrates Zelda's journey after she travels back in time, teaming up with the last remaining Zonai, Rauru, his sister Mineru, and his wife Sonia, to battle Ganondorf and his forces.

The trailer provided a glimpse into the unique abilities of these champions, showcasing Mineru piloting her mech, Zelda wielding magic, Rauru with his distinctive sword-spear weapon, and quick flashes of the other Sacred Stone wielders in action.

This marks the third entry in the Hyrule Warriors series, following the original Hyrule Warriors and Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity. The latter, which was a prequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, offered a slightly unexpected twist on its narrative, making it intriguing to see how Age of Imprisonment might surprise its players. We awarded Age of Calamity a 9/10, praising it as "a joy to play and discover" and "a blast from start to finish."
