Insomniac Games, the creative force behind the Ratchet and Clank series, has expressed a keen interest in further exploring the realm of game-to-screen adaptations. This revelation came from co-Studio Head Ryan Schneider in a recent interview with Variety, shortly after the announcement of the retirement of founder and long-time CEO Ted Price.

"I think back to the Ratchet and Clank film from several years ago. And we kind of got an early start on that. So, of course, we’re interested in that kind of thing. We love Ratchet and Clank in particular," Schneider stated.

The 2016 Ratchet and Clank film received mixed reviews, but with Insomniac's acquisition by Sony in 2019, the studio is optimistic about their future projects. Sony’s track record with successful game adaptations, such as the critically acclaimed The Last of Us series, bolsters Insomniac's confidence in this direction.

Insomniac's interest in game-to-screen adaptations aligns perfectly with Sony's proven expertise in this field. Sony has successfully transformed several game titles into movies or series, including the 2022 Uncharted film and the 2023 The Last of Us TV series.

Sony unveiled more upcoming projects at the CES 2025 press conference. The Last of Us Season 2 is set to premiere on HBO in April 2025, followed by the Until Dawn live-action film in the same month. Additionally, fans can look forward to the Ghost of Tsushima Legends anime series on Crunchyroll in 2027. Sony is also developing a Helldivers feature film and a Horizon Zero Dawn live-action film, though specific release dates for these projects remain undisclosed.

In the midst of these exciting announcements, Insomniac's founder and CEO Ted Price announced his retirement after a remarkable 30-year tenure. Insomniac Games is renowned for creating iconic franchises such as "Spyro the Dragon," "Ratchet & Clank," and "Marvel’s Spider-Man." Reflecting on his decision, Price shared, "I actually made this decision last year. For me, after over 30 years of leading Insomniac, I felt it was simply time to step aside and let others pave the way for our team."

The leadership transition will see three Insomniac veterans, Ryan Schneider, Chad Dezern, and Jen Huang, stepping up as co-Studio Heads. Price expressed his confidence in the new leadership, stating, "I believe strongly that for us to continue our success, we need leaders at the top who are intimately familiar with how we do things, leaders who have helped build our culture and our processes, and who have earned people’s trust."
