YouTuber Jacksepticeye, whose real name is Seán William McLoughlin, recently shared his disappointment in a video titled 'A Bad Month,' where he disclosed the cancellation of a Soma animated show he had been working on for a year. Soma, a critically acclaimed survival horror science fiction game developed by Frictional Games and released in 2015, holds a special place in Jacksepticeye's heart, often ranking among his top favorite games.
In the video, Jacksepticeye expressed his excitement about the project, which involved close collaboration with the game's developers. The animated show was poised to enter full production, but it abruptly fell apart when an unnamed party decided to take the project in a different direction. This sudden change left Jacksepticeye "quite upset" and reluctant to delve into the specifics of what happened.
The cancellation of the Soma animated show has significantly impacted Jacksepticeye's plans for 2025. He had intended to focus heavily on the project, which would have reduced his content output but promised a rewarding creative endeavor. With the project's collapse, Jacksepticeye finds himself reevaluating his priorities and feeling frustrated with the lack of tangible results after dedicating so much time and effort.
Following Soma, Frictional Games released two additional Amnesia titles: Amnesia: Rebirth in 2020 and Amnesia: The Bunker in 2023. In a statement made in July 2023, Frictional's creative director, Thomas Grip, indicated the company's intention to shift focus away from horror games to explore other emotional qualities in their future projects. Grip emphasized the aim to create immersive experiences that evoke a range of emotions beyond just fear.
