Hideki Kamiya, the visionary behind the original Devil May Cry, has expressed a keen interest in crafting a remake of this iconic game. Dive into Kamiya's vision for the remake and the inspiration behind the original game.
Hideki Kamiya Wants To Do Devil May Cry Remake
Devil May Cry Remake Will Not Be Made Like 24 Years Ago
The gaming industry has seen a surge in remakes of classic titles, with renowned games like Final Fantasy VII, Silent Hill 2, and Resident Evil 4 leading the charge. Now, Devil May Cry (DMC) might join their ranks, as its original director, Hideki Kamiya, has voiced his interest in remaking this legendary action game.
In a recent video posted on his YouTube channel on May 8, Kamiya engaged with fans on the topic of remakes and sequels. When queried about his vision for a DMC remake, he enthusiastically responded, "A remake like that, well, I would like to do that."
First Released 2001
Originally launched in 2001, Devil May Cry was initially conceived as Resident Evil 4. However, its development veered significantly from its roots, leading Capcom to birth the DMC franchise instead.
Reflecting on the game nearly 25 years later, Kamiya revealed the personal inspiration behind DMC. He shared that in 2000, he was deeply affected by a breakup, and the emotions from that experience fueled the creation of the game. "That memory burned inside me, which became DMC," he explained.
Kamiya admits he rarely replays his games post-launch, including DMC. Yet, when he occasionally views gameplay clips, he acknowledges the game's age and its old-school design. If he were to undertake a remake, he insists on starting from scratch, leveraging modern technology and contemporary game design principles.
While the idea is currently not at the forefront of his mind, Kamiya is open to the possibility should the project materialize. He confidently stated, "But if the time comes— I’ll come up with something. That’s what I do." Additionally, Kamiya expressed interest in remaking another of his classics, Viewtiful Joe, sparking hope among fans for the revival of these beloved titles in the form of remakes in the near future.
