Nintendo's Mario Kart World Direct, held on April 17, showcased numerous aspects and features of the game. Players can now freely drive around Mario Kart World, exploring both familiar and brand-new regions within the series.
According to Nintendo, "In Mario Kart World, the game’s courses are interspersed across the world with roads leading from one to the next – so players can experience navigating roads in between courses!"
Embark on a journey through the world of Mario like never before, with scenic views and iconic landmarks spread throughout. As you roam, uncover hidden items and undertake missions that enhance your driving skills beyond the traditional races.
The game features a mix of new and classic courses, including Mario Bros. Circuit, Crown City, Salty Salty Speedway, Starview Peak, Boo Cinema, Toad's Factory, Peach Beach, and Wario Shipyard. These classic courses have been reimagined to seamlessly integrate into this expansive Mario Kart experience.
Grand Prix and Knockout Tour
Mario Kart World introduces two main racing types: Grand Prix and Knockout Tour, both accommodating up to 24 racers, setting a new record for the series. Racers must navigate through various obstacles, such as cars firing Bullet Bills and attacks from the Hammer Bros.
In the Grand Prix, players compete in four consecutive races to win cups like the Mushroom Cup, Flower Cup, and Star Cup. A unique twist is that players must physically travel to the next race location to continue the Grand Prix. Upon completing all the cups, a mysterious "colorful course" appears, rumored to be the iconic Rainbow Road.
The newly introduced Knockout Tour takes players on an extensive journey across the world. This survival-style race requires racers to finish in a qualifying position to advance to the next leg; otherwise, they are eliminated from the competition.

Mario Kart World brings a fresh arsenal of items for races, alongside returning favorites. New items include the Coin Shell, which can knock opponents aside and scatter coins, the Ice Flower that freezes anyone it contacts, and the Big Mushroom that enlarges players to crush rivals.
The roster features classic Mushroom Kingdom characters such as Mario, Luigi, Peach, and Bowser, alongside new additions like Goomba, Spike, and even Cow. Players can discover and unlock alternate costumes for these characters hidden throughout the world.
Playing With Friends
The game offers a variety of engaging game modes. Time Trials let players race against global ghost data, while VS mode allows for extensive customization and team-based racing. Battle mode returns with Coin Runners and Balloon Battle, challenging players to collect the most coins or be the last with a balloon intact.
Mario Kart World supports both local and online multiplayer. Up to four players can race in split-screen mode on a single system, while local wireless play accommodates up to eight players (two per Switch 2 device).
