The developers of Marvel Rivals have announced exciting updates to keep the game dynamic and engaging. Starting with Season 3, they plan to introduce new heroes monthly and shorten the duration of seasons. Dive into the details of these upcoming changes and discover the new characters and skins on the horizon.
Marvel Rivals Upcoming Changes
New Heroes Every Month
NetEase, aiming to maintain the game's freshness, has decided to accelerate the release of new heroes. Instead of the initial plan of two heroes per season, Marvel Rivals will now introduce a new hero every month. This was shared by Creative Director Guangguang and Lead Combat Designer Zhiyong during the Marvel Rivals’ Dev Vision Vol. 05 on April 4, along with other season adjustments.
The seasons will be shortened from three months to two, starting from Season 3. Guangguang stated, "After extensive internal discussions and thorough evaluation, we’ve decided that starting from Season 3, the seasons will shift to a two-month format, with a new hero debuting each month."
Guangguang acknowledged the pressure from social media discussions to keep the game exciting since its launch in December. The team is also considering adding new game modes in the future to further enhance player engagement. With this new schedule, up to 12 heroes could be added annually.
Balancing these new additions is a significant challenge, but Guangguang highlighted the team's approach in an interview with PC Gamer on March 14. He emphasized using key metric data across all game modes, including pick rates, win rates, stats, and abilities, to ensure balanced gameplay.
Season 2 Details and Future Plans
Season 2, themed as the Hellfire Gala, introduces Emma Frost, an X-Men villain with telepathic powers and the ability to transform objects into diamonds. She will serve as a Vanguard in the game. The Hellfire Gala takes place on the Mutant haven, Living Island Krakoa, where Marvel Heroes are invited to celebrate in lavish style.
The trailer for Season 2 showcased new skins for Luna Snow, Magneto, Cloak and Dagger, Black Panther, and others, all dressed in elegant formal attire. The Hellfire Gala draws inspiration from Marvel’s Hellfire Club, known for its influence among the wealthy and elite.
Following Emma Frost's introduction, Season 2.5 will bring Ultron, another iconic Marvel villain, into the fray. The Hellfire Gala trailer teases Ultron's robots disrupting the party, signaling the beginning of the Age of Ultron. Further details about Ultron's role are yet to be disclosed.
