Mask Around is the sequel to one of the strangest roguelikes of all time

By ScarlettJan 21,2025

Mask Around: The sequel to 2020's hit, Mask Up, is here! This time, prepare for a blend of intense shooting and brutal brawling action.

The signature yellow ooze returns, but with some unexpected twists.

For those familiar with 2020's quirky roguelike platformer, Mask Up, developer Rouli delivers another dose of bizarre fun with Mask Around. Remember transforming from a puddle of yellow goo into a powerful, gooey warrior? Well, get ready for more!

Unlike the original's 2D roguelike brawling focus, Mask Around integrates 2D shooting mechanics. You can seamlessly switch between gunning down foes and unleashing your goo-based melee attacks.

However, the precious yellow ooze remains a limited resource, so manage your meter carefully, especially during challenging boss fights.

More Than Just a Mask

Mask Around is currently available on Google Play. An iOS release hasn't been announced yet. While I haven't played the original, Mask Around appears to be a significant improvement, expanding upon the original gameplay while retaining its core mechanics.

Resource management is key; you must strategically utilize your ooze while employing your weaponry when supplies run low. The visuals have also received a noticeable polish.
