The Armadillo, a passive mob introduced in Minecraft's 1.20.5 "Armored Paws" update, is found across various warm biomes. Its tough scutes are crucial for crafting Wolf Armor. Here's how to acquire them.
How to Get Armadillo Scutes in Minecraft
Armadillos, typically found in groups of two or three, inhabit warm biomes. Approaching cautiously is key, as they defensively curl into a ball when startled.
These biomes are your hunting grounds: Badlands, Eroded Badlands, Savanna, Savanna Plateau, Windswept Savanna, and Wooded Badlands.
There are two methods for obtaining Armadillo Scutes:
Method 1: Patience and Waiting
Similar to collecting chicken eggs, Armadillos naturally shed a scute every 5-10 minutes. This passive approach requires no tools but can be time-consuming, especially if you need multiple suits of armor.
Method 2: The Brush Method
This popular method uses a crafted Brush. While often used to investigate sand or gravel, it efficiently collects one scute per use on an Armadillo.
In the Java Edition, a fully durable, unenchanted Brush works four times before breaking; in Bedrock Edition, it's five uses. Damaged Brushes can be repaired using an Anvil, preserving enchantments if present.
Brushes can be enchanted with Unbreaking, Mending, and Curse of Vanishing.
Crafting a Brush requires one Feather, one Copper Ingot, and one Stick, placed vertically in the crafting grid.
Approach Armadillos slowly, avoid triggering their defense mechanism, and use your Brush to gently collect scutes. Multiple Brushes significantly speed up the process.

Once you've gathered six scutes (enough for one suit of Wolf Armor), head to a crafting table to create your canine companion's new protective gear.
Whether you choose patience or the brush method, these are the current ways to obtain Armadillo Scutes in Minecraft and put them to good use.
