Monster Hunter Wilds Adds Microtransactions

By SamuelMar 14,2025

Capcom's Monster Hunter Wilds introduces a new character customization feature allowing players to edit their hunter and Palico appearances. While the initial edit is free, subsequent changes require purchasing Character Edit Vouchers. These vouchers are sold in packs of three for $6, or a combined pack for both characters for $10. Without vouchers, players are limited to hairstyles, eyebrow color, makeup, and clothing; core facial features remain unchangeable.

This monetization model wasn't revealed in pre-release previews, instead announced last week via Capcom's social media. Despite controversy surrounding this and reported performance issues, Monster Hunter Wilds still achieved record-breaking success, boasting over 1.3 million concurrent Steam players at launch.

Capcom has yet to respond to player feedback regarding this paid customization. The community's response has been largely negative, with many comparing it unfavorably to previous games where character appearance changes were free or earned through in-game progress. This paid model is seen by many as undermining a core element of the franchise's identity.
