Nintendo has officially announced the pre-order date and pricing details for the much-anticipated Nintendo Switch 2 console and its accessories. While the console's price remains steady, a noticeable increase in accessory costs has sparked discussions among fans, potentially affecting early adopters' pre-order decisions.
The base model of the Nintendo Switch 2 will be available for $449.99, with the bundle including Mario Kart World priced at $499.99. The standalone price for Mario Kart World remains at $79.99, while the new game, Donkey Kong Bananza, will cost $69.99.
However, the accessory lineup has seen a broad increase in prices. Here's a detailed breakdown:
- Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller - $84.99
- Joy-Con 2 Pair - $94.99
- Joy-Con 2 Charging Grip - $39.99
- Joy-Con 2 Strap - $13.99
- Joy-Con 2 Wheel Set - $24.99
- Nintendo Switch 2 Camera - $54.99
- Nintendo Switch 2 Dock Set - $119.99
- Nintendo Switch 2 Carrying Case & Screen Protector - $39.99
- Nintendo Switch 2 All-In-One Carrying Case - $84.99
- Nintendo Switch 2 AC Adapter - $34.99
Nintendo's announcement on their official site clarified that these "price adjustments" for Switch 2 accessories were necessitated by "changes in market conditions." Notably, a $5 increase is seen across many of the high-ticket items like the Joy-Con 2 Pair, Switch 2 Pro Controller, and the camera. The Switch 2 Dock Set experienced a $10 hike, bringing it to $119.99 from its previous $109.99.
The community has been quick to react, particularly to the near triple-digit price of a Joy-Con 2 Pair, expressing surprise and concern over the cost. However, amidst the pricing discussions, there's a silver lining: many original Nintendo Switch 1 accessories remain compatible with the Switch 2. According to Nintendo's support site, original Joy-Con controllers and the Nintendo Switch 1 Pro controller can be wirelessly paired, although the former cannot be directly attached. Other classic controllers like the Super Nintendo and N64 can also be used with compatible games.

The online chatter also includes discussions on using third-party controllers, which, while lacking some features like the C-button or console wake-up functionality, may provide a cost-effective alternative for some Switch 2 buyers.
Nintendo has cautioned that further price adjustments could occur in the future due to ongoing market conditions. This news might be reassuring for those with existing Pro controllers, knowing they can still use them on the Switch 2.
Pre-orders for the Nintendo Switch 2 will commence on April 24, 2025.
