Nintendo Switch 2 Joy-Con Leak: A Closer Look at the Next-Gen Controller
New images circulating online strongly suggest a reveal of the Nintendo Switch successor's Joy-Con controllers is imminent. While the current Switch still boasts a 2025 game release lineup, its lifespan appears to be nearing its end. Nintendo's confirmed announcement before the close of their 2024 fiscal year fuels speculation and leaks surrounding the Switch 2.
With a rumored March 2025 launch, leaks regarding the Switch 2's specifications and features are rampant. Third-party developers and insiders have reportedly shared images of the console itself, adding to the buzz. Details about the continued use of Joy-Cons, including their color schemes, have also emerged. A recent leak on the r/NintendoSwitch2 subreddit, shared by user SwordfishAgile3472, provides the clearest images yet of the Switch 2's Joy-Cons. These images, allegedly sourced from a Chinese social media platform, show the back and side of the left Joy-Con.
The images confirm a key rumored feature: magnetic connection. Unlike the rail-based system of the original Switch, the Switch 2 Joy-Cons appear to utilize magnetic fields for attachment, eliminating physical contact.
Decoding the Joy-Con Leak:
The leaked images showcase a predominantly black Joy-Con with blue accents, echoing the original Switch's color scheme, but with a reversed color emphasis. The blue is more prominent on the magnetic connection area. The images also offer a glimpse at the button layout, revealing larger "SL" and "SR" buttons, and a notable third button on the back. This additional button is speculated to be a release mechanism for the magnetic connection.
These Joy-Con images align with other leaked images and mockups of the Switch 2 console. However, official confirmation from Nintendo remains pending.
