"Oblivion Remastered Update Causes Visual Glitches, Bethesda Working on Fix"

By SkylarMay 23,2025

PC players of *The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered* encountered unexpected issues following a surprise update released today, but Bethesda has reassured the community that a solution is in the works. The update, rolled out by Virtuos without prior notice or patch notes, was intended to be a minor adjustment but ended up causing significant disruptions for many players.

As reported by one Reddit user, the update has disabled the ability to adjust upscaling methods, leaving them stuck at 'off' despite attempts to change settings. This has resulted in performance issues, with some players experiencing reduced frame rates. For instance, a user with a 5800X3D processor and a 5080 GPU reported being limited to 40-60 fps on high settings, a significant drop from their usual performance.

The timing of the update is particularly frustrating as it coincides with Oblivion Remastered’s first weekend, leaving many fans disappointed and struggling with visual and performance setbacks.

In response to the outcry, Bethesda issued a statement on its official support page, clarifying that the update was meant to include "a few backend tweaks and nothing directly impacting gameplay." However, it appears that the update has primarily affected those who purchased the game through the Microsoft Store, with issues related to upscaling and anti-aliasing options.

Bethesda further explained that "any graphic settings adjusted prior to the Microsoft Store hotfix are still enabled and function normally. However, you will temporarily be unable to adjust those settings due to the issue with the settings UI." The team at Bethesda is actively working on a fix and promised to provide updates as soon as possible.
