Capcom has unveiled exciting new gameplay footage of their highly anticipated 2026 action game, Onimusha: Way of the Sword. The spotlight isn't just on the game's thrilling sword-based combat and imposing adversaries; we've also learned that the legendary swordsman Miyamoto Musashi will be leading the charge.
During the PlayStation State of Play, Capcom released a captivating trailer that provided a fresh look at the gameplay of Onimusha: Way of the Sword. Although the game's release is set for 2026, the visuals and action-packed sequences promise a thrilling experience for fans of the franchise.
Onimusha: Way of the Sword features the renowned Japanese swordsman Miyamoto Musashi, whose legendary prowess with the blade is brought to life in the game. Not only does Musashi exhibit unmatched sword skills, but the trailer also highlighted his roguish and humorous personality, adding depth to his character.
According to Capcom's press release, Onimusha: Way of the Sword is described as a dark fantasy action game centered around one of Japan's most celebrated historical figures. Interestingly, Musashi's in-game appearance is modeled after the iconic Japanese actor Toshiro Mifune, who famously portrayed Musashi in various samurai films.
The game is set in Kyoto, which has fallen under the control of a malevolent force called Malic. Malic is intent on summoning Hell and its denizens into Japan, setting the stage for an epic battle. This marks the first new entry in the Onimusha series in two decades, and to build excitement, Capcom has also announced the release of a remastered version of Onimusha 2: Samurai's Destiny on May 23, 2025.
