Palworld developer Pocketpair is gearing up for a major update, set to roll out in late March 2025, which will introduce crossplay functionality across all platforms. This highly anticipated update will also feature world transfer capabilities for Pals, enhancing the multiplayer experience. While details remain sparse, Pocketpair shared a glimpse of what's to come via a promotional image showcasing various Palworld characters engaged in battle against a formidable Pal.
Pocketpair's Communications Director and Publishing Manager, John 'Bucky' Buckley, hinted at additional "little surprises" to be included in the March update, adding to the excitement for the game's 32 million players who have joined since its early access launch in January 2024.
The studio has outlined an extensive content roadmap for 2025, promising not only crossplay but also an "ending scenario" and further new content for this immensely popular creature-catching survival game. Palworld hit the market on Steam for $30 and was immediately available on Game Pass for Xbox and PC, achieving record-breaking sales and player numbers. Pocketpair's CEO, Takuro Mizobe, admitted the game's launch overwhelmed the company with massive profits, leading to swift action to capitalize on its success.
In a strategic move, Pocketpair signed a deal with Sony to establish Palworld Entertainment, a new venture focused on expanding the Palworld IP and bringing the game to PS5. However, the game's success has not been without challenges. Nintendo and The Pokémon Company have filed a lawsuit against Pocketpair, alleging infringement on "multiple" patent rights and seeking an injunction and damages. In response, Pocketpair has identified the specific patents in question and made adjustments to the gameplay, such as how players summon Pals. The company remains steadfast, prepared to defend its position in court, stating, "We will continue to assert our position in this case through future legal proceedings."
