Payday 3 Offline Trap Unveiled

Starbreeze Entertainment announces a new Offline Mode for Payday 3, arriving later this month. However, this addition comes with a significant caveat: an internet connection is still required. This follows substantial player feedback regarding the absence of offline play since the game's launch.

The Payday series, known for its cooperative heist gameplay and emphasis on stealth and diverse weaponry, debuted in 2011 with Payday: The Heist. Payday 3 significantly enhanced stealth mechanics, providing players with greater tactical freedom. The upcoming "Boys in Blue" update on June 27th introduces a new heist and the highly anticipated Offline Mode.

Initially launching in beta, this Offline Mode will necessitate an online connection. While future updates aim for complete offline functionality, this initial version eliminates the need for matchmaking queues for solo players – a major point of contention among the community. The lack of a dedicated solo offline option, alongside the omission of features like The Safehouse, drew significant criticism.

This new solo mode, according to Starbreeze's Head of Community and Global Brand Director, Almir Listo, is a work in progress and will receive ongoing improvements. The June 27th update also includes a new heist, free items, and enhancements such as a new LMG, three masks, and customizable loadout naming.

Payday 3's launch faced challenges, including server issues and criticism over its limited initial heist content (eight heists at launch). While subsequent updates will add more heists, these expansions will be paid content, such as the $10 Syntax Error heist. Starbreeze CEO Tobias Sjögren previously apologized for the game's initial state and has committed to ongoing improvements.
