Phasmophobia: Guide to Cursed Objects and Their Functions

By AudreyMay 26,2025

In *Phasmophobia*, mastering the use of Cursed Objects can significantly enhance your ghost-hunting experience. These intriguing items, also known as Cursed Possessions, are randomly generated across different maps, depending on your chosen game mode and settings. While the equipment in your van is designed to aid your investigation, Cursed Objects offer powerful "cheats" that come with significant risks. Each object can provide unique benefits, like pinpointing the ghost's favorite room or boosting your team's abilities, but they also carry the potential for serious drawbacks, such as a rapid loss of sanity or triggering a dangerous "cursed" hunt.

What Is a Cursed Object in Phasmophobia?

Cursed Objects, or Cursed Possessions, are unique items in *Phasmophobia* that you'll find scattered across the maps you play. To harness their power, you need to locate them and activate them on-site. Unlike your standard equipment, these objects offer shortcuts that can expedite your ghost-hunting process but at a cost. Using them might drain your sanity, blind you temporarily, or even trigger a surprise hunt. It's crucial to approach them with caution, as they might not appear at all on certain difficulty levels or in Challenge Mode.

How All Cursed Objects Work in Phasmophobia

*Phasmophobia* currently features seven distinct Cursed Objects, each with unique abilities and side effects. A common risk among all is a significant drop in sanity, which can lead to a "cursed hunt"—a hunt that disregards your sanity level, is longer than usual, and can occur even if a normal hunt just ended. Here's a detailed breakdown of each Cursed Object:

Cursed ObjectAbility
Tarot Cards10 randomly generated cards that each grant a certain buff, debuff, or elicit more ghost activity.
**Certain cards such as "Death" can trigger a Cursed Hunt.
Ouija BoardAllows the player to directly communicate with the ghost by asking appropriate questions (e.g., "Where are you?", "Where is the bone?", "What is my sanity?").
**Specific Ouija Board Questions such as "Hide and Seek" can trigger a Cursed Hunt.
**If the Ouija Board shatters after use, a Cursed Hunt will start.
Haunted MirrorAllows the player to see the ghost's current favorite room/area by looking into the mirror.
**If the player looks at the mirror until it shatters, a Cursed Hunt will start.
Music BoxReveals the ghost's current location by forcing it to appear in a special event when the music box is played.
**If the player uses the Music Box too long, a Cursed Hunt will start.
Summoning CircleAllows the player to summon and trap the ghost inside the circle by lighting the candles around it.
**Doing this will always trigger a Cursed Hunt afterward unless a Tier 3 Crucifix is placed on the circle.
Voodoo DollAllows the player to force ghost interactions by pressing each of the 10 pins inside the doll.
**If the pin inside the doll's heart is pushed in, a Cursed Hunt will start.
Monkey PawAllows the player to ask for a certain amount of wishes (depending on difficulty) that can influence the ghost and/or the environment.
**Certain Monkey Paw Wishes can severely impair or trap the player for extended periods, so choose wisely.

Best Cursed Objects to Use in Phasmophobia

When choosing which Cursed Objects to use, consider those that offer the least risk and maximum benefit. Availability varies by game mode and difficulty settings, but here are some of the best options:

Haunted Mirror

The Haunted Mirror is one of the safest and most beneficial Cursed Objects in *Phasmophobia*. It reveals the ghost's current favorite room/area, enabling you to quickly set up your equipment and start gathering evidence. Be cautious not to look at it for too long, as it can drain your sanity and trigger a Cursed Hunt if it shatters.

Ouija Board

The Ouija Board, the first Cursed Object introduced to *Phasmophobia*, remains a reliable choice. It allows direct communication with the ghost, which can help locate the ghost and even find the bone's spawn location, speeding up your investigation. Be mindful of the questions you ask, as certain ones can trigger a Cursed Hunt, especially if the board shatters.

Voodoo Doll

The Voodoo Doll can be incredibly useful for forcing ghost interactions to gather evidence. By inserting pins into the doll, you can prompt interactions with objects or equipment. However, avoid the pin in the heart, as it will trigger a Cursed Hunt.

Understanding how to use Cursed Objects effectively can make a significant difference in your *Phasmophobia* gameplay. Stay tuned to The Escapist for the latest guides and updates on *Phasmophobia*, including the 2025 Roadmap & Preview.
